The Gräshoppa floor lamp is one of Greta Grossman's most iconic products designed in the 1940s and 1950s. Grossman was strongly influenced by European modernism, which had been brought to the United States by influential architects, such as Walter Gropius (founder bauhaus) and ludwig mies van der rohe. Grossman, in turn, played an important role in defining the mid-century aesthetic of California modernism. The iconic gräshoppa lamp was first produced in 1947. The tubular steel tripod support is tilted backwards and the elongated conical aluminum lampshade is ball-jointed to the arm, so that the light can be directional , but the glare is minimal. Today, Grossman's product designs are collectible and are sold at auctions around the world. Grossman's products are unique, classic modern designs.
