English George III Regency commode with a bombé front in 19th-century mahogany veneer. A display commode with a curved front, known as "bow-front, " typical of British cabinetmaking from the early 19th century. English work from the late George III period or early Regency period, estimated to date from the first quarter of the 19th century. Structure made of solid wood (hardwoods and softwoods) covered with a veneer of precious wood, identified as mahogany with flame-grained horizontal pattern. The back panel is rough-sawn with an old reddish pigmentation. Traditional construction, with drawer joints made by hand-cut dovetails. The piece opens at the front with three drawers of decreasing heights. The base is highlighted by a shaped plinth extending to flared console feet. The decoration is simple and geometric, accentuated by fine inlays of light wood outlining the edge of the top. The pulls are circular metal knobs with a dark patina and stamped radiating decoration. The lock entries are inlaid brass. Overall condition is very satisfactory. The piece is perfectly stable. The top shows usage scratches, slight discolouration, and marks inherent to its age. There are some veneer losses and visible old restorations on the edges and the lower rail. No keys are present. Measurements: • Height: 90 cm. • Width: 91 cm. • Depth: 49 cm.
