Authentic and antique decorative bowl / ashtray of Anglo-Indian origin (Ceylon / Sri Lanka), hand-carved from solid ebony and adorned with porcupine quills. Dating from the late Victorian / Edwardian era (circa 1900), this piece perfectly aligns with the principles of the Arts & Crafts movement, celebrating craftsmanship and natural materials. The body is turned by an expert from a single block of high-quality dense black ebony, featuring a striking radial pattern of polished porcupine quills. The upper and outer edges are beautifully embellished with inlays of white bone dots arranged in geometric patterns. It is a very heavy and substantial piece for its size, reflecting the superior quality of the genuine ebony used. Condition: Excellent antique condition. The piece is beautifully preserved: all bone inlays are present, and all porcupine quills are intact, healthy, and securely attached. The ebony retains a magnificent original shiny patina.
