Important garden vase in sculpted marble from the Napoleonic III period, dating from the second half of the 19th century. This elegant ornamental piece features a classic silhouette inspired by the decorative vocabulary of antiquity, highly appreciated during the Second Empire. The flared bowl is richly decorated with a frieze of intertwined stylised palmettes, a motif inherited from Greco-Roman ornamentation and widely adopted in the decorative arts of the 19th century. The vase rests on a turned pedestal, which is itself set on a square base, giving the whole a beautiful stability and a sculptural presence ideal for a garden, terrace, or monumental interior. The marble has a light ivory background veined with grey, likely a Carrara-type marble or Italian statuary marble, frequently used for this type of ornamentation in the 19th century.
