Bonbon – soft circulair 2-seater

This is quite an unusual sofa. The interior of a much too young deceased four-seater became the donor for this little heavyweight. The original upholstery had reached the end of its life, but the foam inside remained in exceptional condition. While the cushions happened to be stacked beneath me in the workshop, I discovered they formed an incredibly comfortable seat. In many ways, the material had already designed the object. Part of the original timber frame was rebuilt to suit its new proportions. The Nosag spring system was virtually unused and effortlessly supports this new soft composition. Legs became unnecessary; the generous double layer of foam naturally created the perfect seating height. Using a traditional upholsterer's knife, I sculpted the final silhouette by hand before carefully sanding every curve smooth. And there she stood. An unapologetically plump two-seater, containing enough high-quality foam to furnish an average four-seat sofa. For me, BONBON is both a celebration of premium furniture materials and a gentle protest against our throwaway culture. Why consume new resources when the finest materials are often already in front of us. She quietly occupies a room with confidence. This is a sofa that has presence—perhaps even because it stands directly on the floor instead of delicate legs. She is looking for an equally independent interior, where she can continue her life as a second-love companion for many years to come. Materials. Reclaimed timber.
