Magnificent oil on canvas representing an interior scene: a 19th century man writing at his desk. Signed lower right "marius jognarelli" and dated 1893. Originally from mirepoix (in the ariège region, france), marius jognarelli (1830 – 1920) was famous for his paintings, his numerous advertising posters, including that for the "cachou lajaunie", and also as an art teacher. The shadows and lights cast on the details of this interior scene are superbly well done: the light coming from the opaline glass lamp is diffused on the sheets of paper placed on the desk, as well as on the face of this man.
