Émile Louis PICAULT (1833-1915), after. A pair of large covered vases in brown, green, and gold patinated metal, resting on a marble base. Baluster-shaped, with handles decorated with swans, richly ornamented with fluting, laurel crowns, gadroons, acanthus leaves… The bodies finely sculpted with antique scenes, on one side a chariot race, on the other the sacrifice of a bull. The lid (non-removable) topped with a pine cone. Signed. Height: 43.5 cm. Approximately 4.5 kg each. These vases originally formed part of a magnificent fireplace set featuring a monumental clock titled "Ave Cesar te victor salvet." General good condition. Minor wear to the patina. Émile Louis Picault was a French sculptor. He began his career in 1863 with the exhibition of a work at the Salon de Paris. He became famous for his allegories, warriors, heroes, and representations of historical and mythological figures.
