Large table lamp by ceramist Jean Austruy (1910-2012) with a raised red glaze decoration around the rim. Like Suzanne Ramié (Madoura) or Robert Picault, Jean Austruy is part of the post-war generation of ceramists who reinterpreted traditional folk pottery, thus participating in the revival of the arts of earth and fire. A trained designer and sculptor, he redesigned vases and jugs by modernizing the handles with volutes and twists. The rhythm brings freshness and a new fantasy to the everyday object, which thus asserts its dual utilitarian and decorative role. The colors of the 1940s are united with glazed or metallic effects.
