Pair of mid century chairs by Tatra

These elegant dining chairs were designed and produced by the Tatra company in the 1960’s Czechoslovakia. The main feature of this chair design is the two gently arching backrest supports that slightly oversail the top wooden bar. The four slender bars in between these supports bend in seemingly the opposite direction. The overall effect is a chair that is effortlessly sleek and celebrates the advantages of the bentwood tradition, whilst searching for a new design form. Both chairs have been refurbished and are in great vintage condition; .they have been polished out by hand using original techniques and materials. Shellac and nitro varnishes were used to achieve the beautiful high gloss finish.
