Empty pocket

Pretty empty pocket in openwork metal painted in gray and whose very graceful patterns have been highlighted thanks to a white patina. The original use of this object remains mysterious, although a hallmark under the main tray mentions that it is patented and "made in italy" engraved drawings depicting typical palmettes of the 20s/30s. According to my inferences and unsuccessful research, it could be a display (dried fruits, sweets...?) the elements can be unscrewed (in 3 parts) if you know the history of this object do not hesitate to contact me.
