Ancient oromo neck support, ethiopia

Neck supports are often described as supports intended to protect elaborate hairstyles, hairstyles often taking long hours or even days to be made. This one comes from a very small ethnic group in southern ethiopia: the karos, living on the banks of the omo river in ethiopia. Dense wood, beautiful patina due to the fat used for maintenance. Slight imperfections and cracks in the wood are natural for these parts. This one has obviously been repaired by its user (see photo above).
