Pair of andirons and grates in cast iron and bronze with gilded grotesques, 17th century

Pair of magnificent andirons and a matching 18th-century log grate. The set is made of black cast iron. The andirons are decorated with gilded brass marmosets, typical of the majestic Louis XIV style, finely sculpted figures. The robust cast iron construction makes them very heavy and durable. The gilded bronze figures are slightly pitted with verdigris and would benefit from polishing to restore their former charm and splendor. I was captivated by the marmosets' faces, these grotesque and amusing little characters. Pre-owned, in good overall condition, but needs cleaning. The solid grate measures 45.5 X 36.5 cm.
