Very pretty Sonia vase by Val Saint Lambert, Luxval collection, Belgium. Made of pressed glass. Very good condition despite the presence of 2 scratches on the bottom of the vase (see photo). Scratches inherent in the manufacture of glass. Height: 20 cm. Neck diameter: 16 cm. Base diameter: 9 cm. *** In the early 1930s, the consequences of the Wall Street crash were felt on the global economy, and also affected the Val-Saint-Lambert factory. Cut crystal objects, more expensive to produce, sold less well. In addition, the production of molded glass took on considerable importance in Czechoslovakia, where labor was very cheap, and appealed to the European public. Thus, in an effort to satisfy these many customers, and under the influence of René Delvenne and Charles Graffart, then respectively a professor at the company's drawing school and an independent master engraver, the Luxval line was launched. Although molded glass objects were already present in many earlier catalogs (as early as 1904), and some Art Deco style pieces, also in molded glass, were already produced as early as 1925, the first price list for the Luxval range was issued on April 15, 1934. The so-called "1935" catalog was supplemented by additional pieces in 1938. *** Careful shipping or hand delivery free of charge possible in Paris. Contact me!
