Painted cast iron plant stand – Victorian period McDowall Steven & Co (Scotland), circa 1880-1900 A rare and poetic piece, straight out of the late 19th century: this delicate openwork cast iron plant stand is a true work of ornamental art. Its two floral tops, hand-painted in vibrant shades of red, yellow and green, are supported by a finely sculpted structure of plant motifs and scrolls in an Art Nouveau spirit. - Details to note: Painted solid cast iron, very stable structure despite the visual lightness Double top with hand-painted floral decorations (stylized roses, leaves, arabesques) Original marking “ME” with arrow and Registered Design numbers 6618 / 6619, confirming manufacture by McDowall Steven & Co, a renowned Glasgow foundry Perfect as a small pedestal table, plant stand or display stand Dimensions: Top: L 28 cm / W 26 cm Height: 75 cm Condition: Good general condition. Some traces of time which reinforce its charm (micro chips in the paint, natural patina). Piece cleaned and stabilized.
