Petrified wood bowl or dish. Petrified wood is a wood fossil (same family as the magnolia) dating back 20 million years. Silica has replaced the wood fiber molecule by molecule, giving rise to silicified wood. Fossilization is slow, which allows the tree patterns to be distinguished.
