Large Viennese Modernism curved brass wave chandelier by Hugo Gorge, 1940s

This exquisite and large Art Nouveau / Jugendstil brass chandelier exemplifies the elegance of Viennese Modernism. Designed by architect Hugo Gorge in the 1930s and manufactured in the 1940s, it stands out for its exceptional scale. With a diameter of 48 inches, this is the largest version of this model encountered, likely a custom-made, one-of-a-kind piece. Crafted with outstanding quality, the chandelier features a sculptural, gracefully curved brass frame suspended by woven cords, accommodating eight light sources with elegant conical lampshades. It also presents beautifully when displayed without shades. The chandelier is in very good original condition, showcasing a desirable patina on the brass hardware that has developed beautifully over time. It retains its original wiring and charming white porcelain sockets. The current total drop height is 59 inches. The lampshades have been carefully refurbished in off-white beige silk fabric, preserving their original proportions. Wiring has been checked and is fully functional, compatible with both E26 (US) and E27 (EU) bulbs. The drop height can be shortened if needed.
