Pair of green ceramic elephants from the Saint Clément factory! The elephants are glazed in a veined green known as "malachite green, " typical of Saint Clément's production from the 1950s to 1970s. The vent hole under the feet is a classic manufacturing technique of moulded ceramics from the mid-20th century, particularly at Saint Clément, Lunéville, Sarreguemines, and other French factories. Each piece is signed on the foot "FRANCE" followed by the mould number "887" (noting that Saint Clément consistently indicated a mould number on these pieces between 1930 and 1960). All this information allows for a fairly precise dating of this pair of elephants to the 1950s/1960s. Each elephant measures: Height: 23.6 cm. Width: 23 cm. And weighs approximately 800 g. Each elephant is signed "FRANCE 887" on the underside of a foot! It is possible that the signature is also "SCT FRANCE 887, " but honestly, it is very difficult to read (everyone can form their own opinion based on the photo). The elephants are in good condition (small marks here and there, but notably, each elephant has a "chip" at the same level (right front foot, see the photos). Honestly, although the chip is quite significant, it is hardly noticeable, especially since one might think it is the relief of the toenail and that each elephant has the same! Overall, they remain in very good condition! Carefully packaged for shipping!.
