English oak Arts & Crafts chest – sabre legs, red lining
Solid oak chest from the English Arts & Crafts period, early 20th century. Its inverted trapezoidal silhouette – wider at the top than at the bottom – gives it a distinctive character that is immediately recognisable. It rests on four curved saber legs, connected by a low stretcher, adding lightness and stability to the whole. The lid, with a scalloped profile, rounded corners, and a peripheral moulding, opens on two hammered brass hinges. The interior is fully lined with a bright red fabric featuring discreet floral and geometric patterns, still well preserved. The expressive and prominent oak grain, along with the uniform golden brown patina, attest to the quality of the wood and the age of the piece. The overall condition is good, with natural patina wear and a few light marks on the legs, consistent with its age. It can serve as a toy chest, a storage trunk at the foot of a bed, or as an additional decorative piece. Dimensions: H. 42 cm × W. 65 cm × D. 35 cm. Weight: 25 kg.
