A complete and iconic mid-century dining set — the Tulip series designed by Maurice Burke for Arkana, England, dating to the 1960s. This is one of the most celebrated furniture designs of the Space Age era. Maurice Burke's Tulip collection for Arkana was the definitive British interpretation of the tulip pedestal concept — white fibreglass shell chairs on four-star swivel bases paired with a round white laminate tulip table on a single trumpet pedestal. The result is a set that feels simultaneously futuristic and timeless, as fresh today as it was sixty years ago. The chairs feature the characteristic white moulded fibreglass shells with original brown upholstered seat pads, mounted on splayed four-pointed swivel bases — elegant, functional and deeply comfortable. The table top is a generous white laminate circle on a single flared pedestal base, bringing the whole group together into a perfectly coherent visual whole. This exact model achieved genuine screen immortality when it was used on the set of the original Star Trek television series — the chairs appearing in various episodes of the USS Enterprise interior. For collectors of Space Age design and cult television history alike, that provenance is irreplaceable.
