Michel Caugant wasn't a ceramicist, but a renowned charcutier and caterer based in Brittany. In the early 1970s, to stand out from his competitors, he offered pâté terrines sold in original, high-quality containers that customers could then keep. He commissioned decorative earthenware or slipware terrines to be made in Portugal, each piece hand-painted.
