Ancient Japanese tansu of the mizuya-dansu type made of wood with keyaki burl veneer (Japanese zelkova), dated between the end of the Taishō period and the beginning of the Shōwa period, circa 1910–1940. The mizuya-dansu was traditionally used in Japanese kitchens to store utensils, dishes, dry food, and household items. Its structure combines closed compartments, shelves, and drawers, allowing for the organisation of everyday objects. The façade features a remarkable veneer of keyaki burl (Zelkova serrata), valued for its swirling grains and organic patterns that add depth and character to the piece. Keyaki is a highly regarded wood in Japanese furniture for its strength and natural beauty. The composition includes sliding doors, small cupboards, and drawers of various sizes, forming an asymmetrical structure characteristic of early 20th-century Japanese domestic furniture.
