Hornsea heirloom saffron storage jar, marked 'sugar'. Made in england, heirloom was hornsea's first complete range of tableware and was designed by john clappison in 1966 - in production from 1967 to 1987. Its distinctive screen printed pattern, together with the well designed shapes, proved so successful that from 1968 onwards the entire hornsea production was dedicated to it for a time. Heirloom continues to be popular with collectors on the secondary market - now with a whole new generation discovering it. The straight cylindrical shapes were designed to be stackable and finished with polished wooden lids. Many of the storage jars/canisters also had the name of the intended contents (flour, sugar etc) cast into them. Clearly stamped 'hornsea england' on the base. Small chip to note on the base of the 'tea' jar, visible in one of the photos.
