Here is a lovely glass jar in a beautiful green colour, topped with a silver-plated handle mount. It is believed to be a biscuit jar from the late 19th century or early 20th century. Not being a specialist in this type of object, I cannot be certain, but several elements suggest this. The silver-plated mount, intricately designed, reflects the codes of Art Nouveau: floral motifs, flowing lines, arabesques, without right angles, yet there remains a symmetry that leads me to think it may even be from the Napoleonic III era, just before the peak of the Art Nouveau style. The thick glass, ribbed on the inside, shows air bubbles that testify to ancient glassworking techniques. These jars typically had a lid in the same metal, which is absent here. Indeed, I found it with a much more recent turned wooden lid that I will include with the package (see last photo). This jar is in generally good condition, with no cracks or chips on the glass, and no deformations or breaks on the metal mount. However, it does show its age: the metal has a dark patina in places. It also has some original defects; it is not a "true" piece of craftsmanship in the sense we understand today: the mount has small remnants of moulding that have not been properly removed at the ends, the glass has some imperfections, with small bubbles burst on the surface, and the edge of the glass visible under the mount is irregular. It measures 10.5 cm in height (and 12 cm at the handles), 14 cm in maximum diameter, and 19 cm in width including the handles.
