Superb set of two animal works in chamotte stoneware, representing a rooster (the larger one, with its tail spread and long neck raised) and a hen (more compact, with its tail raised). Very pronounced grainy texture, sprinkled with typical black inclusions of pyritic clays used in the major artisan workshops of the time (La Borne, Vallauris, South-West). The surface treatment alternates between a speckled cracked green-beige glaze ("craquelé") on the main parts of the body and areas of unglazed brown-red stoneware, revealing the richness of the clay. White diagonals create a nice graphic contrast. Both pieces bear an imprint on the raw clay (stamp or mark) on the reverse. Artist to be identified. Discreet signs of use: an old repair on one tail. Dimensions: Large 27x14xh22cm. Small 23x12xh20cm.
