Adjustable chairs and sun loungers did not begin to be produced for everyday use until the mid-nineteenth century. This adjustable armchair by american designer george wilson, patented in 1870, is a piece of leisure furniture, proof that its owner could afford the joys of idleness. The backrest, leg rest and footrest are adjusted separately allowing various uses, right back chair, deckchair, up to the lying position. The "adjustable chair" with its deluge of gear wheels, notches, steel joysticks perfectly illustrates the beginnings of the industrial era of the 19th century. The chair that weighs a certain weight is mounted on 4 wheels which facilitates its movement. The structure is in excellent condition. Armchair stamped with a riveted brass plate on the top of the backrest. The cushions out of breath are to be changed. The width of the seat is 58 cm, the total width is 65 cm. Manufactured by wilson's adjustable iron chair co. Note that the same copy sits at the vitra design museum in germany.
