Cabinet of gilded and silvered guadamecí, Art Nouveau, circa 1920 – Spain. Spectacular cabinet with a wooden soul and gilded and silvered guadamecí, decorated with flowers and birds. Spanish work from the early 20th century, in the Art Nouveau style and period. The main body features three clean and straight sides, except for the bottom, which has a lobed elephant skirt that refers to its Art Nouveau style. It adds movement and visual strength. Two symmetrical compartments at the top and another drop-down one with great capacity. It stands on a carved wooden base, with four slender, turned legs connected by a crossbar. What is exceptional is the leatherwork, crafted using the artistic technique known as embossed leatherwork, decorated with polychrome, gilded, and silvered flowers and birds. It has its origins in Arab culture and developed in Spain, especially in Córdoba, Andalusia. It can be applied to Cordoban leather or sheep skin. The techniques of gilding, silvering, and polychromy were applied to the already prepared leather. Materials: Wood and guadamecí. Style: Art Nouveau. Period: Circa 1920. Country of origin: Spain.
