Pair of armchairs by Isamu Kenmochi, Japan circa 1965

A pair of armchairs designed by Isamu Kenmochi, from the late 1960s. These armchairs perfectly embody the style of modernist Japanese design. Their bent beech structure creates a continuous line between the armrests and the legs, giving the chair a soft and fluid silhouette. The generously padded seat has been restored in a woven red fabric. Kenmochi reinterprets the shapes of pre-war Japanese chairs here, in a distinctly modern spirit typical of the 60s and 70s.
