This Lafuma folding chair, model Chantazur, is iconic of an era; it is the camping holiday chair from the 1960s! It is very practical as, once folded, it takes up minimal space and can be slipped anywhere! It dates from before 1968, as evidenced by the label on the frame that includes the mention "patented s.g.d.g", a mention that disappeared in 1968. There is also a structural difference from the following models: a tube that reinforces the structure and also serves as a footrest, which in addition gives a nice design to the chair, even when folded. And a small detail that adds charm: the nails around the backrest. The structure is made of gold tubular metal, and the seat and backrest are covered in a (original) mustard-coloured fabric. This chair is still solid and stable, in good structural condition, but shows visible signs of its well-worn fifty years: the fabric has no holes but is quite faded, the padding has seen better days, having shifted under the fabric, the gold lacquer on the frame has marks and scratches and is missing in places, which now show some superficial corrosion. This chair is still usable as it is, but it would also be ideal for a reupholstery project, as on one hand it doesn’t seem too complicated, and on the other hand, a chair that has been an icon of a generation deserves this extra life, and even several more lives! I have quickly cleaned it: a cloth with cleaner on the structure, and dusting (no washing). When unfolded, this chair measures 81 cm in height at the backrest, with a footprint of 45 cm wide by 42 cm deep. The seat is about 43 cm high. When folded, it measures 5 or 6 cm thick, 95 cm long and 45 cm wide. It weighs about 4 kg.
