Iridescent purple and green glass vase, Bohemia circa 1900, in the style of Loetz: hot-pulled body, long bulbous neck, floral decoration with gold highlights. H. 27 cm. In Bohemia, around 1900, several glassworks competed in the iridescent glass market. The most famous, Johann Lötz Witwe in Klostermühle, began producing it shortly after 1890, initially imitating Tiffany, before finding its own style around 1900, inspired by the reflections of excavation glass and mother-of-pearl. Following in its wake, other Bohemian houses worked in the same vein, notably Kralik, Rindskopf, and Pallme-König. The vase bears no mark. It has been presented as attributed to Loetz, with which it shares the purple and green iridescence and hot modeling. However, most Art Nouveau glass from Loetz is unsigned, and its Bohemian competitors produced very similar pieces: we therefore present it as a Bohemian glass in the style of Loetz. The vase is in very good condition. There are slight chips on the inside of the neck and some small signs of use, normal for an object over a century old.
