JEAN-LOUIS CHOREL (Lyon 1875 - Villeurbanne 1946) Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. 1919. Oil on cardboard. 22 X 13 cm (frame 34.4 X 25 cm) Signed at the bottom left: Jean Chorel. Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, in the summer of 1919, where the doors and walls cast their shadows on the narrow street leading to the imposing medieval fortress of Saint-André, perched at the top of the hill. Jean-Louis Chorel is a sculptor and painter from Lyon. His sculptures strongly mark the streets and buildings of Lyon. At the same time, he is also a talented landscape painter and regularly exhibits his paintings at the Salons of Lyon, Dijon, and Mâcon.
