Glazed terracotta vase, Art Deco, signed René Nicole (1885-1960)

Large Art Deco vase by René Nicole (signature RN), a Franco-Swiss ceramist based in Fernay-Voltaire, in the Ain region, near Geneva (Switzerland). An active master potter from 1919 to 1939 (when the workshop closed), he modernised the shapes of Savoyard pottery while maintaining the traditional technique of glossy glazes and vibrant colours. Here, an interesting spiral decoration. The Ariana Museum in Geneva paid tribute to him in 1998 with a significant exhibition. Overall in good condition, with some visible enamel jumps in the photos. A true love at first sight.
