Rare “Nail Fetish” Nkondi statue of the Kongo (Kissi / Vili) people, traditionally used for protection, justice and spiritual authority. Details. • Origin: Democratic Republic of Congo (Kissi / Vili) • Period: ca. 1980–2000. • Materials: wood, iron nails, glass eyes, natural pigments. • Dimensions: H. 37 cm × W. 17 cm × D. 14 cm. • Weight: ~ 1 kg. • Condition: good vintage condition, slight age-related wear. • Special features: traces of polychromy, numerous nails and ritual blades; eyes set with glass reinforcing its mystical presence. Meaning. Each nail or blade driven into the Nkondi's body materializes an act, an oath, or a dispute sealed before the community.
