Pair of Alsatian couple chairs – 18th century – German baroque style – Stained solid wood

Pair of Alsatian chairs from the 18th century in dark stained solid wood, in German Baroque style with Louis XIII influence. Each chair features a high-relief carved backrest adorned with scrolls, acanthus leaves, an oval openwork central cartouche, and a elaborately worked crowning cornice. The two backrests are slightly differentiated in their decoration, following the tradition of Alsatian 'couple chairs'. The triangular seat rests on three spiral twisted legs of the 'barley twist' type, characteristic of 18th-century Alsatian and German production. The wood shows an aged patina. The two chairs differ in their seat height (48 and 46 cm) and total height (89 and 85 cm), in accordance with the use of the pair. The pair has been fully restored by a specialised workshop. General condition: restored. Dimensions: H. 89/85 cm – Seat 48/46 cm – W. 39 cm – D. 36 cm – Weight: 12 kg.
