The Vienna Secession (Sezessionstil or Wiener Secession in German) is an artistic movement that flourished in Austria, particularly in Vienna, between 1898 and 1910. This movement is linked to Art Nouveau and Jugendstil, a vast wave of renewal of artistic forms that took place throughout the West at the end of the 19th century. The Vienna Secession nevertheless has its own characteristics, manifestos, exhibitions and artists, with its anchor point in Vienna, but also Prague, Budapest and other cities of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. **The Wilhelm Schiller & Sohn factory operated from 1885 to 1914. Its closure was caused by the First World War, as the number of workers employed was too large to maintain the activity. This closure was permanent. For a large part of its activity, the factory perpetuated the tradition of Victorian-style majolica. From around 1905, the house produced pieces that were clearly more influenced by Art Nouveau and the Secession: simplification of forms, use of plant motifs.
