RENATO BORSATO Renato Borsato was born in Venice in 1927. Throughout his career, he established himself as one of the greatest Italian painters of the post-World War II era, attracting the attention of critics and the public. His impressionist style, characterised by great lyricism, remarkable expressive intensity, and a unique talent for colour, earned him numerous national and international awards. He travelled and painted in Switzerland, Austria, and France, where he stayed in Paris in 1953. The year 1954 marked a turning point in his career: he exhibited five works at the Venice Biennale and won the Tursi Prize. In 1955, he returned to France and was invited to the Quadriennale in Rome. In 1956, he participated again in the Venice Biennale with three canvases, one of which was acquired by the President of the Republic, Giovanni Gronchi, and another by the Galleria d'Arte Modena in Rome. That same year, he returned to Paris where the Galérie Bernheim organised a solo exhibition of his work and he was interviewed by French television. In 1957, he stayed in Milan, and in the following years in Viareggio and London. Among the awards he received during these years, the most notable are: two first prizes and two second prizes at the 40th, 41st, 42nd, and 43rd exhibitions of the Bevilacqua La Masa group; a prize at the International Exhibition of Gorizia in 1954 and the Absolute Prize in 1955; the "Premio Portovenere" at the National Exhibition of La Spezia in 1955; and the first Triveneta prize in Portogruaro in 1956.
