Octagonal art deco fifth column curved walnut magnifying glass by de coene freres, ca 1925

Art deco column with cut sides, made by the belgian factory of the ateliers de coene frères in kortrijk during the 1920s/30s. The structure of the piedestal, base and shelf are designed in walnut veneer. Model of octagonal harness with 8 facets, curved central barrel. Period furniture, restored, in very good condition. Another slightly smaller harness of the same series, is on sale on selency. From coene frères (kortrijk): 1887 is the year in which the story of de coene begins in kortrijk. During the interwar period, the company gained international fame for the production of high-quality art deco wooden furniture. Based on the arts and crafts philosophy, the company will call on great artists and architects, including the painter albert saverys. In addition to the individual sale of furniture to the wealthy bourgeoisie, the company is also responsible for custom furnishings for restaurants, hotels, casinos, trains, banks and other large institutions. Orders from abroad (france, the netherlands and the united kingdom) flooded in and the company became one of the most important furniture manufacturers in belgium and its reputation became international.
