Art Nouveau Side Table in Blackened Wood with Storage Basket, Belgium, 1890

A charming and unusual Belgian side table from around 1910, positioned stylistically between the flowing elegance of Art Nouveau and the emerging geometric clarity of Art Deco. The piece features a circular wooden top supported by three slender legs, beneath which hangs a gathered fabric pouch in a floral motif; both decorative and functional. The combination of warm wood, delicate textile, and light, vertical proportions gives the table a graceful presence. The fabric basket, typical of early 20th‑century sewing or work tables, adds charm and utility, making the piece suitable for storing small items while serving as an elegant accent in a living room, bedroom, or reading corner. A refined example of Belgian craftsmanship from the early modern period, blending organic lines with the first hints of modernist structure.
