SHORT BIOGRAPHY: Born in 1895 and died in 1975 in Paris, Eugène Paul, known as Gen Paul, is a French painter. This artist particularly marked the history of French expressionism with his gouaches, drawings, engravings and lithographs. In the 1920s, Gen Paul moved away from his friends Utrillo, Leprin or Génin in order to create his own form of expressionism where movement and faces take a predominant place. In 1928, he participated in an exhibition at the Bing Gallery with the artists Picasso, Braque and Soutine. In the 1930s, a new artistic evolution characterized by the use of lighter colors, a more apparent drawing line and the artist broadened the choice of the themes treated. After 1945, Gen Paul returned to oil paintings and gouache, drew extensively and produced works on Paris and on the musicians he frequented, he witnessed the creative atmosphere of Montmartre. Gen Paul then became an essential artist.
