Description
Presumed portrait of jean, louis vallez, (1807-1857), oil on zinc panel, representing him seated at the edge of a table. The right hand, carrying a quill and a notebook underneath, with a green inkwell next to it. He wears a jacket, a shirt and a black scarf. He poses proudly with a piercing gaze. According to the indications on the back, this portrait dates from his teaching at the lycée du puy en velay from 1837 to 1840. He was first a schoolmaster before ending his career as a professor at the royal college of nantes. He had many children including the famous writer, journalist and politician jules vallez 1832-1885 (valles) who wrote the books: l'enfant, l'insurgé, le bachelier; politician elected to the municipal council in 1871 and founder of the newspaper: le cri du peuple. Condition, the painting is in its original state, deserves a little cleaning to bring out the pinkness of the skin of the face and shows some wear due to time, on the zinc. It has a frame on the back and an explanatory label with annotations on the back. For history buffs, this large painting will decorate your interior with taste and originality.
