Born in Stuttgart, he received a solid academic education between 1959 and 1968, studying art, art history, and Romance literature in Stuttgart, Tübingen, Vienna, and Paris. During this period, he also began directing by creating sets and banners for several German theatres. From 1968 onwards, he balanced his career as an artist with his role as a teacher and lecturer for the Goethe-Institut, a position he held until 2005. This profession allowed him to travel across Europe and set up his successive studios in various major cultural centres, living and creating primarily between Munich, Polling in Bavaria, and Verona in Italy, while regularly spending time in Paris, Lyon, and Rotterdam. His artistic journey is marked by a radical transition. While he began with figurative painting close to realism and tinged with pop influences, he quickly moved towards pure abstraction focused on expressionism and the quest for material. Fascinated by the role of chance in the creative process, he sought to free gesture from all intellectual control. He thus abandoned traditional tools to apply paint spontaneously, using techniques of pouring or spreading pigments directly with his hands and fingers. The result is vibrant and textured works, which he carefully signs with his initials "MK" and dates very precisely to the day directly on the canvas.
