We are delighted to offer this lovely original pair of brass and leather sword handle candlesticks from the British Army of 1905 by Benham & Froud (circa 1855-1924, Chandos St, London). The famous 'orb' was adopted because the firm manufactured the current cross on the dome of St Paul's Cathedral in 1821, visible from the shop in London. Each sword guard is a lacework piece moulded with the initials VR for Victoria Regina, signifying the reign of Queen Victoria. Both handles bear the registration number RD NO278788. These are decorative, significant, and highly collectible pieces, with original finish and a lovely patina. Dimensions: Height 30 cm, Width 16.5 cm, Depth 17 cm (measurements taken at the widest point). This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouse. Condition: good condition with wear consistent with age and use, slight tarnishing. Please refer to the detailed images which are an integral part of the condition description. Note that vintage and original pieces like leather naturally exhibit patina in the form of cracks, creases, and wear. Regular polishing is recommended to preserve moisture, and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided as it may dry out and discolour the hand-dyed leather.
