Superb naturalist vase by eugene lion, artist of the carriès school in st amand in puisaye. Perfect condition, no cracks, no ginning. In 1888, the sculptor jean carries arrived in puisaye. He needs advice and naturally finds it in lion. Amand lion, eugene's father, was master potter at the time; he's 50 years old. Eugene is 21 and he knows his trade and masters the techniques. If amand tries to make some "art ceramics", it is really eugene who benefits from the contribution of what is now called the carries school. With a strong personality, he interprets it in his own way by combining asian inspiration and local tradition, daring strong contrasts or bold rapprochements without posing a philosophical problem. Eugene lion's ceramic work perfectly represents the synthesis between the traditional object and the object of art, the rural world and the city, necessity and freedom.
