Contract Base Slate Coffee Table, Charles & Ray Eames, Herman Miller 1960

Coffee table, herman miller edition from the 1960s-70s in slate on a 'contract base' chrome finish base. The eames 'contract base' was launched by herman miller in 1957 and was part of the 'alu group' range. The eames contract base coffee and dining tables used a common base type with a wide variation of tops. Most tops are not very aesthetically pleasing because they have a laminate finish. But during the 1960s, natural stone tops were added to the range, such as onyx, marble and slate as on this example. The table is in very good condition, the chrome finish is just damaged on a small area of the base - see photo.
