Very beautiful art deco vase with floral polychrome decoration made by charles catteau, signed boch frères keramis (bfk), la louvière, belgium, number d.944. In perfect condition. Height 29.5cm; diameter (widest): 17cm. Charles catteau was born in france in 1880; his talent was quickly noticed by one of the most important ceramic producers in belgium at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1906, catteau moved to la louvière, belgium, to work as a draftsman for boch frères keramis. In 1907, catteau was appointed head of the decoration department of boch frères, which would later be known as the atelier de fantaisie. Catteau uses increasingly vivid colors, which produces striking contrasts. In the mid-1920s, catteau began covering his vases with wallpaper-like patterns, densely decorating the entire shape. He is constantly experimenting with different styles, compositions and materials. He eventually changed the composition of the enamels he used, creating pieces that resembled glassware or sculptures with dazzling glazes.
