Remarkable 15-piece set by master silversmith Robert Linzeler for Jules Piault Paris, 19th century, circa 1850. The set includes 6 table knives, 6 cheese knives, and a complete leg of lamb service in its original case consisting of a large fork, a large knife, and tongs. The pieces are all monogrammed on one side of the handle. The blades are made of cast steel and are signed JP (Jules Piault in Paris), letters surmounted by the royal Linzeler crown. They are all very sharp. The neck braces are unmarked silver, and the handles are bone. The condition is exceptional for a set from this period. The knife blades are very shiny, without stains or any deformation. The handles are solid, without any play, and are not cracked. Some traces of oxidation on the fork and the blade of the leg of lamb carving knife, signs of wear on the case. Fine scratches from use on the knife blades. Robert Linzeler is a prominent silversmith family established in Paris since 1808. The house was awarded a gold medal at the 1900 World's Fair. The workshops successively moved from 68 rue de Turbigo to 4 rue de la Paix, then to 9 rue d'Argenson in Paris. Jules Piault is a famous cutler from the second half of the 19th century, notably a supplier to Emperor Napoleon III. He was active between 1856 and 1887.
