Before switching to mass industrial production, the glassworks in La Chapelle St Mesmin produced fine Art Deco tableware, including these famous champagne coupes with a star-shaped base and finely decorated glass featuring several gold threads. They are in perfect condition, with 24 available. The most famous legend claims that the first champagne coupe was moulded on the left breast of a major historical figure from the French court. Two names frequently mentioned are the Marquise de Pompadour (mistress of Louis XV) or Queen Marie Antoinette (wife of Louis XVI). This legend has been revived with other models, such as glasses moulded on the breasts of Kate Moss or Claudia Schiffer. Made in France is embossed under the base.
