An old herbal tea maker or night light teapot in white porcelain with pearl frieze. Old paris (mark on the reverse to decipher) Period: late nineteenth. Dimensions: height 23 cm, width pourer 16 cm; weight 2.3 kg. In the nineteenth century, infusions of herbs began to be absorbed for pleasure, hitherto considered remedies. This is the appearance of the herbal tea maker, or teapot night light, composed of a pourer, an open cylinder at the top, and a bucket with wick and oil, to keep the herbal tea warm and diffuse a weak light. Originally, this source of heat and light was for medical use.
