Art Deco vase in glazed stoneware made by the French ceramist Louis Dage (1885-1961), active in northern France, the Paris region, and then the Landes. This piece features a stylised floral decoration in polychrome, treated in flat areas of yellow, turquoise, orange, and green on a deep black background, characteristic of the decorative research in France during the interwar period. The baluster silhouette of the vase combines a sober geometric construction with a decoration still inherited from late Art Nouveau, reflecting the aesthetic transition in French decorative arts during the years 1925-1935. Louis Dage's work engages in dialogue with certain contemporary productions from Primavera, Denbac, Sainte-Radegonde, or Boch Frères Keramis, while maintaining a very personal palette and approach to glazes. Like many creators of fire arts from this period, such as the Mougin or Odetta workshops, Louis Dage develops decorative ceramics that combine artisanal research, plant stylisation, and a broader appeal to a clientele sensitive to the renewal of modern interiors. His work is particularly distinguished by the richness of his glazes and the balance between pure forms and constructed decoration. Based in Antony from 1919 and then in Saint-Sever from 1935, he fully participated in the revival of French ceramics during the interwar period and the rise of modernist decorative arts in France. Signed piece in very good condition. French production, circa 1930.
