Ceramic cut by jean rivier, with abstract decoration signed under the base. For the record jean rivier was the dean of potters of the golden age of vallauris (alpes-maritimes), who died there at the age of 101 in 2017. Jean rivier made "potters de vallauris" parity, a ceramics mecca from 1930 to 1970, with pablo picasso, jean marais, jean gerbino, roger capron, robert picault, alexandre kostanda, jean derval and jacques innocenti. Jean rivier moved to vallauris in 1952 with juliette derel. They both produced a well-known work of ceramics decorated with modernist geometric patterns, engraved or hand-painted. In 1955, jean rivier participated in a travelling exhibition of pottery by the vallauris group in some thirty american museums. A professor of ceramics at the school of fine arts in tours from 1973, jean rivier has also devoted himself to lithogravure and poetry.
