Antique 19th century cast iron pestle and mortar

Antique pestle and mortar. Made of cast iron, this 19th century pestle and mortar with its flared rim shows signs that it was put to good use during its ‘working’ life. Pestle and mortars were used for medicinal and culinary purposes in the 19th century and most homes, apothecaries and kitchens would have one. The pestle is 59 cm long and the unit weighs over 30 kg in its entirety.
